Ye, I read those news on Engadget. Hopefully Sony will bring it to the US. I wonder how different or what modifications are done to this Locationfree TV unit. Reading from that translation it seems like that the Base Staion is more compact now.
I have been using Locationfree TV player on my X505 and on Z1 and found those pretty useful. I use LF-X5 unit when I am out, it is quicker to boot and good to surf the net.
Definitely nice price break!
P.S. Welcome back Erik…. I gotta post some of my reviews here as well.
There was a device in CompUSA that I’ve tried, doing exactly the same thing. I forgot the name ... It costs 249$ and allows you to watch TV/DVD/Cable in/out your network. Very crappy quality or maybe I am too spoiled with HD. Not to mention that once HDTV is out full force .. and since these devices are all capture devices ... something like taht will need a hell of a horsepower to timeshift/record HD.
Also a typical HD steam is 3-5Megabytes/second… No wireless will sustain it…. yet.
I think you were referring to SlingMedia device just recently released.
A lot of quality of timeshifting TV streaming will depend on your uploading speed (should be more than 300 Kbs) to get decent video feeds.
