It has been previously reported that VAIO users who had either uninstalled or upgraded the ‘InterVideo WinDVD 4 (or 5) for VAIO’ have been unable to play DVDs in VAIO Zone.
I found a solution, and it is very simple (though it requires changing one value in the system registry:
1) Look for the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\VAIO Entertainment\1.0\DVD\
There is a REG_SZ named DVDEngineRegistryKey, and its value should be Software\InterVideo\WinDVD4
It should be either \WinDVD4 or \WinDVD5, depending on which VAIO model you use.
2) Then, look for the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo
The latest version of WinDVD is reflected in its own key here. WinDVD 6, if installed, will have the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo\DVD6
3) Go back to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\VAIO Entertainment\1.0\DVD\
and change DVDEngineRegistryKey to:
Software\InterVideo\DVD6
That’s it! You should be able to play DVDs in VAIO Zone. :D
