[quote author=“tifosiv122”]I still see the benefit to clamshell designs.
1. The screen is protected.
2. You can flip open to answer, flip close to hangup - much easier then searching for a button.
3. The phone instantly becomes smaller.
My all time favorite phone was my Motorola Vader phone:
This thing was very small for it’s time (actually still smaller then most cells).

I would add that clamshells tend to eliminate the need for phone locking and accidentally calling either the first or last person in address book and having them cuss you out in your pocket every time you use up their minutes unknowingly.
Personally, I find that flipping the phone open to answer a call is much faster and effortless with my clamshell. Also, ending a call is easy. I just close the phone and put it in my pocket. It can be done with one hand with ease and there’s no “mistake” of accidentally pressing the wrong button and I don’t have to lock the phone before putting it back into my pocket.
Clamshells also have a better ergonomic effect in terms of opening up to give you a greater surface area to hold the phone. This makes the phone easier to use and hold against your neck for those times you need to talk for a while and you’ve forgotten your handsfree kit.
Lastly, due to the design of a clamshell, you tend to have larger, more readable screens since they have more room for a larger LCD.
