If you are going to get a X505 then is it even worth buying (at the rather large cost) if you don’t get the Carbon Fibre casing? OK so the other one is light and the same size, but it’s shell looks just like a “normal” laptop and I think rather boring. Whereas the Carbon Fibre has the Wow quality and possibly the collectors item status.
You are very right. It baffled me that there was even a black version of the Carbon fibre; it’s like putting in beautiful cedar window frames and then painting them (someone did this on a friends house - heartbreaking). You definately need the strained look and that the one I was talking about. If you had to get the black one you may as well get the nickel one as what you need for the Wow factor is the real Carbon fibre look like you get in race cars and cars people “hot up”.
I noticed in looking aruond that the SP came with an included cleaning cloth and I think that’s because of the way it shows up fingerprints so easily. I was actually looking at some auctions for them and in a couple of photos you could actually see how finger-printy they were so I think they do mark easily. But that’s not a real issue is it? I mean it’s fairly easy to clean fingerprints and really any glossy item is going to show them, even my phone screen gets a bit cloggy with prints after a while.

As you clean the finger prints you make new ones, lol. It’s like cleaning a mirror. You can get it clean, but when/if you touch it you will make it printy again.
Even the carbon-nicken model that I have X505ZP leaves finger-prints on and they also supply a cleaning cloth. But it is not an issue for me. I recently bought an attache case for my X505 that was marketed only in Japan (PCGA-MAC505), really well designed briefcase with molded places to hold your X505, your dongle, wireless PC card and a mouse. It is slim and very professional looking one:
