I was having some problems with choppy DVD playback on my TR2AP. I checked all the settings I could think of, including DMA setting, etc. It just wouldn’t get better, and didn’t seem to be connected with the newness or dirtiness of the DVD.

So, I installed the firmware upgrade for my drive, hoping that would help.  Since then, I can’t play any DVDs at all. In fact, it doesn’t recognize that there is even a disk in the drive if it is a DVD. If it is a CD, then all is well and I can access it.

I’ve tried reinstalling the DVD software and I’ve checked the settings for the drive, but nothing seems to help. I’ve checked and I do have the correct drive for that firmware upgrade, the UJDA745.

You can download older firmware versions from the links on that site, the actual files are located on Sony’s servers. It sounds like something might be wonky with your drive mechanism though, but hopefully older firmware will get your DVD playback working again.

Tried the roll back, that didn’t work. Apparently firmware is not included in a system restore.

Tried reflashing the firmware with the older version, it wouldn’t let me.

I haven’t been able to get any of my DVDs to run. Even the brand news that Amazon just delivered.

It’s quite annoying to have this wonderful wide screen, and no way to watch my Firefly episodes on it.

Not sure there’s much else to do but contact Sony and tell them about the problem. You are probably going to have to get the drive physically replaced one way or another.
