iTunes doesn’t convert to MP3 so you’ll need another program to do it

Sorry groovy one but i thought the whole point was that i tunes could convert to mp3?

Oops, let me clarify. iTunes will let you convert any CD to MP3 files. I was slightly wrong about that…i must have not had enough coffee when i posted that… :cry:

HOWEVER, if you purchase any song from the iTunes music store then you CANNOT convert it to MP3. The songs from the iTMS are in AAC format with some form of digital rights management installed so you can’t copy them.

The trick to get around this is to burn the AAC song to CD (which iTunes allows up to 10 times or something like that) and then to re-convert it back to MP3 using iTunes or any other media player/encoder.

once an aac is converted through a burn and re-rip process can you keep copying it?  or is it still have 10 x copy restriction?  curious?

my point is i want to use one of these music services and get an mp3 player but i dont want to be locked in to any of them.

and may i add that you would get an even “lossier” song by doing that.

Once the file is burned to a CD, all of the DRM junk is lost and you can do whatever you want with the audio file. So, if you convert it back to MP3 and import it into iTunes then it won’t have any sort of copy protection on it.
