Has anybody tried out ? I heard about it, and it sounded cool. I installed it, downloaded a couple of indy films. It was kind of fun, but…
I deleted the desktop icon and changed it so it didn’t auto-start. (I do this on almost everything.) That’s when I found the program is not in Start / All programs. Nor is it under the Program Files path, that I can find. I started looking for where the media files are stored, but couldn’t find it at first. Later, I assigned WMP (Windows Media Player). It defaults to Quicktime. I hate QuickTime because it forces an iToons install, and because it seems to think it has a god-given right to always auto-start. How rude!.
After that, I found the files in the “My Deliveries” with a WMP extension. But I think the files might have been moved, because assigning WMP installed some additional program and then took several seconds to do something - I am assuming move the files??? Of course, the DRM licence didn’t work, and I wasn’t in the mood to try to download the WMP license update.
I started looking more closely at the setup optioins and help files. I noticed there is no option to set the download file location, no description of where the progrm is, etc, etc. This thing works only with IE and requires Active-X (at least they are up-front about that.) Not to mention they want me to join this file sharing net (don’t worry - they say - nothing can go wrong).
That’s when I checked my C: and D: drives, to find that both were marked for sharing! Well, I hand’t looked for a long while, but it’s not ever my practice to allow my Windows drive to be shared, and to the best of my knowledge, my D: drive wasn’t shared either. So I’m thinking that maybe the “Open” media is a little too open for my tastes.
They did have entries under add/remove programs. And that’s where I found that they had installed services they had not previously mentioned. I immediately removed everything I could find, then ran scans. Everything looks OK.
Later, I had second thoughts. The web site doesn’t seem shady. And this is, after all, Beta software.
Has anybody else tried this software? What are your thoughts/opinions?
