Why wouldnt one want to make recovery cds/dvds using the recovery wizard ?

I did make the recovery CD’s from my TR3A but ended up deciding it was a hassle to keep 5 discs so I ordered the DVD from Sony.  But that’s just me.

If you spent $2K on your laptop and can’t scrounge up $10 to order the recovery disc then something is wrong.  And you don’t even need the $10 to buy the disc.  Get 5 blank CDR and burn the recovery discs yourself.  Total cost? About 50 cents.

Some of us don’t have broadband internet.  We can’t set up our computer to “share” a 5GB image even if we wanted to (which I don’t).  And the last thing I want to install is software that opens my PC to the world.  I spend money on software to prevent that very thing.

Now what I might be willing to do is to purchase the disc for this poor guy and then ship it to him, assuming he want’s to pay the overseas shipping costs.  That would solve his problem woudn’t it?

I´ll try do that tonight. However I cant keep my computer online all the time. PM me so we can discuss it. However, I think your TR will deny the installation, since the TR3A comes with WIN XP HOME and the TR3AP1 comes with WIN XP PRO.

You should serach the forum, I think I saw something on this compatibility issue.

That image won’t work for a TR3A. Sony does a BIOS check when the setup starts. That’s how it is for the TR2 and TR1 model ranges and I have no reason to believe it’s any different for the TR3.

It is a frustrating issue…  You’re paying so much, why can’t they just give you the recovery discs?  Could be a cost saving measure, but even then, just add on another $20 to my total and throw them in.. I don’t think anyone would bicker over $20 when they’re already spending thousands…

It’s more of an annoyance when you don’t have a DVD-RW, because then you have to burn 7 CDs, which is more of a pain than anything.

Recently I bought a VRD-VC10 DVD recorder and made a Recovery DVD (to replace the 6 or 7 CDs). However, when The Recovery utility finished recording the DVD it asked me to insert a CD. The CD was the Startup CD. Why wasn`t the DVD made bootable? I know there was still spaced left on the disk.
