Since I live in Europe, I was thinking of importing either a US or JP version, but afraid of getting one with dead pixel on it. Thus, could anyone suggest what should I do? how easy it is to return and get another one?
should I take a chance??
any advice is more than welcome.
Most likely you will end up with at least one dead pixel. Although I took the warranty, mine has still not been swapped out for a good one. 8 out of 8 of us that picked it up the first night had bad screens. Its rumored that those that sent it back to Sony for repair got ones with more dead pixels. It seems to be the luck of the draw, but if you do get one with dead pixels, you’ll need to keep swapping it till you find one without.
That being said, if you need someone to send the system or games, let me know, i’ve done it for several members already.
im planning on ordering one from lik-sang anytime soon. I was initially waiting for the euro release hoping it would be latest in june, though out of luck its on the 1st Sept.
Another reason for going jap is the price… the price specified by the release info is £179, and i can get it from lik-sang earlier and cheaper, even with the shipping included…
Any one from the states know what the launch price was? and if it was sold cheaper by any retaielrs? if so how much cheaper, just so i can have an idea what retailers are gonna charge when its released..

was $249 the release retail price? or how much you can pick it up for now in the shops? $249 is roughly £130, thats quite a big diff. from £179, why are things in the states always so much cheaper? :x

Yes, that was the retail release price. I think they are selling for $229 used as well. This is the PSP, battery, charger, case, strap, demo UMD, and Spiderman 2 UMD Movie.
Don’t forget games are not region encoded, but movies are, so if you pickup a US PSP you can only watch US movies…same for Jap or Euro.
[quote author=“KZ2030”]Thanks for the offer Erik!!!
I might ask for your favor in couple of weeks, since first I gotta pass that GMAT test  so I can go to grad school.
Thanks again.

No problem. Good luck on the GMAT…I hated the LSAT.

Good luck on the test…always hated all the ETS tests mainly due to the verbal section which always screws up my score :x

Honestly, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I have two stuck pixels and one dead one, and they don’t bother me at all unless I deliberately search for them. If you think it’s a big deal, then I would wait until September 1 when you can get the unit locally so that you can swap in-store. That seems to be everyone’s solution: Open it up in the store and switch it if it has a bad screen.
Point is, though… I don’t feel like it’s worth the trouble. You could have someone in the forum import a US version, since the only difference is the region for UMDs and you would more likely enjoy movies in english. I don’t think that there is any difference in the actual units, they all come from the same factory.
