FYI:  I wrote up my experience and a brief step by step how-to for a clean install of Windows XP Professional SP2 on a Vaio S270.  If you have a DVD-RW, I would recommend still making the 9 recovery CDs as you can’t individually recover apps if you burn a recovery DVD without going through a bit of a hassle.
