I have 13 noticeable on black.. 18 when really really dark, they are gray.. anyway I’ll try exchaning it back.. but I am fearing I might get another one with some dead pixel on it.. so should I wait like 6 months till Sony release the 2nd batch of PSPs this year?
Gosh, that’s terrible. You definitely need to request for an exchange. Where did you purchase your PSP? I got mine from Best Buy and with its 2 year replacement warranty, I can replace it as many times should the PSP exhibits such flaws.
I bought 4 PSPs and only got one without bad pixels. I wish Sony had a great exchange policy like Nintendo, which accepted DS and GBA units with even one stuck or dead pixel. Gorgeous screen though, a lot better than the one on my CLIE TH55.

I like how he basically dodges many of the questions. I wish PSP had a definitive policy spelled out in writing kind of like the DS’ policy which is more or less zero tolerance and no questions asked.
The PSP manual claims that the “spots” are “normal” and not malfunctioning. Err…err…it IS MALFUNCTIONING otherwise the screen would be perfect. :?
Unfortunately Bestbuy is out of PSPs.. a media rep told me to wait a week or so.. .. it’s not like 1 million people went and buy yesterday.. they probably are holding back some for new customers.. I hope I can get it to replace tonight before the weekend starts..
I posted this in the large PSP thread… I think it was overlooked, so I’ll post it here…
A lot of people have dead or stuck pixels… what about you guys?
I think the stuck/lazy pixels are much more common then the dead pixels (they shouldn’t be considered the same). Most of them only show up on all black screens. One place I found to kind of test this is to go to the “about PSP” in the system settings… and someone told me that the beginning of spiderman is all black.
Anyway, I thought i had no problem pixels until I looked at an all-black screen… i then saw I had 3 faint lazy pixels (show up faint gray/white only in black).
someone on the playstation forums made this set of jpgs to test pixels with different color backgrounds:
Ok got 3 PSP returned the first one at Bestbuy. Did a little research and found out Circuitcity has ‘em!!.. So went there and bought 2.. hehe one for my bro. in law anyway.. So here’s the story, I bought one first and tried the black display as posted earlier.. and it took 2 PSPs until I got this third one without a single dead pixel.. then on to my bro. in law’s took only one black screen test.. so basically 5 PSPs run in my hand today.. felt so blessed.. The guy was very helpfull and didn’t get tired of me checking and returning.. So to those with dead pixels, better return it, cuz I have the feeling if Sony gets too many returns about dead pixels they will act. .
got mine exchanged at another circuitcity because the one i purchased the psp from is completely sold out. i don’t know if it’s just me but the L button would get “stuck” sometimes when you press it at an angle? (both psp’s) the second one has 1 “lazy” pixel. barely noticeable but if it gets worse i can always exchange it again within 30 days. (if they still have them in stock by then)

Linc, my L button seems okay.. played Wipeout Pure always pressing it cuz it’s a racing game.. no buttons stuck up.. And about a dead pixel.. I don’t have it anymore, even when I am in my room to check it none.. woohoo.. Sad my PSP fell 1.5 feet from the arm chair, still alive.. checked the screen for any sign of dead pixel or cracks.. seems fine.. this is one tough PSP.. hehe.. got me really worried for a moment though..
