I suspect it has something to do with your Internet cache…I’m testing it on several systems running both IE6 and Firefox 1.01 and am not seeing any of the behavior you guys are seeing.
If you are having problems, please let me know what OS and which browser (and version number) you’re using so I can see if I can replicate the problem.
The site comes up with a “log in” link visible up right, then usually logs itself in automatically. But this time it just refreshed the page, and not changing the “log in” to a “log out” link.
After two days of this, I just tried clearing out my cookies, thinking it might be looking for a cookie and there being some mistake somewhere. That did not make a difference. So then I tried logging in again—the only way I could do it was to click “Stop” so that the page would not refresh itself. And once I logged in manually, everything was ok.
Just for fun, after writing the last post, I closed the browser window and went right back to the main page.
Same thing, it kept on refreshing and not logging in automatically. I had to click “stop” again so that I could actually type something in. Can it have anything to do with the new updates?
Again, please…if you’re having problems. Please let me know your OS (and Service Pack if applicable), exact browser type and version. I can’t do anything about it if I don’t have enough data on what’s causing the problem.
Ok, I’ve tried this on all my Windows XP systems (6 in total) with IE6 and I can’t replicate the problem. I suspect most people’s problems may be caused by old cached files or if you’re on some sort of proxied system.
One thing to try is to completely delete all temporary internet cache files and cookies. You don’t have to delete all cookies…just the ones from siliconpopculture.com. An easy way to do this is to use Crap Cleaner .
Once you’ve cleaned the files out. Restart your system.
Before you fire up IE, go to the Internet Options Control Panel and click on Settings. Change the radio button to Every visit to the page. This should force IE6 to download the latest version of the files.
Now open IE6 and visit the site and see if the problem persists. If it doesn’t then you can go back and change the radio button to Automatically.
