One of the biggest risks in buying online is not being able to see the screen before you buy. Here’s a poll to help see if the risk is worth it. If you have ever returned a TR because of dead pixels then vote again for each TR you have had.
I was extremely pleased to see I had no dead pixels on my screen when it arrived.
Zero on my TR, I’ve had pretty good luck with Sony laptops. Their desktop LCDs on the other hand have had several dead/stuck pixels, but those were brought back to life with a little massaging.
I don’t suppose we use the word detect over here… we observe and search them out??
Well, just take a look at your screen and see if there are any pixels that never changes colour and remain black, white, sometimes green or any other colour. Should be very obvious to the eye. From your ‘ignorance’, I would most probably be right to say that you two do not have any dead pixels. :D
Well, for goods you can buy over the counter, you can always request for a look at the product before you pay up and request for another one if you find a dead pixel. And you can just walk off if they do not allow it. Consumer’s power. But for products that are being shipped, nobody has much of a choice.
Sony Vaio: you lucky?? heh. So far I’ve had 3 laptops. An Acer, a Toshiba and this TR (which I have finally given away as a gift! I misssss it! ). My Acer’s LCD would not give a deal pixel no matter how harsh the conditions its under. But my Toshiba came with one dead pixel, and another just appeared. Not noticeable though.
None on my TR. I’ve been very fortunate with them. Out of all of the LCD devices I’ve owned, only two have had dead pixels. A SE T68i and one stuck white on my monitor. The only time that ever bothered me was when I played the movie “2001” on my computer.
The nice thing is that with such a dense screen, pixels anomalies aren’t as noticeable. I have a dead pixel on my LCD HDTV (also 1280x768 resolution) and it’s huge! :(
My previous TR3A has 3 black pixels on white backgroud. I returned it to the store and got another one. This one has no bad pixel. By the way, the LCD backlights are not as smooth as what I expected for all three TR3As I tested, especially on the right side.
