Anyone found out about Centrino scaling down even when connected to its AC Adaptor? Is there anyway to make the CPU stick? Any application or tweaks or whatever? Please help..

When you right click My Computer and under General tab it tells your the Mhz it is in. Usually it’ll say 1.70Ghz, sometimes 418Mhz, 286Mhz, etc.. So any idea how to make it 1.70Gz at all times when connected to AC?
Got it.. now I can rest in peace.. but why does my Windows Media Player Skips like playing scratched CDs but I am just playing mp3s directly from the disk? I am doing some multi-tasking when this happens.. Running 6 programs including Nero, burning and ripping and editing pictures thru PaintShopPro, and surfing with 5 tabs in Firefox.. and I just got a 256MB ram so total 768RAM.. still waiting for Fry’s stock on 512MB micro-Dimms or even better 1GB.. don’t like ordering online.. I like retail.. long story.. any inputs?
It actually explains the whole 600Mhz vs. sub-600Mhz debate. I still stand by my assertion that the Pentium M only hits 600Mhz at a minimum. However, the processor employs clock throttling which makes some CPU analyzers only see the throttled speed. However, it is still running at an actual 600MHz frequency.
This is the best real-time measurement of your CPU speed, temperature, battery charge/discharge, and hard disk temperature. You do not even need to install, just run it.
Using this extremly small software, I can actually see the CPU scaled down when I am just runing IE or media player, but when I load a new program, it will suddenly go up to the max speed, and out finish the loading, it will scale down again. Both the CPU and the software work pretty well.

No, actually you can get the Intel Pentium M to run at full speed. You simply click on the little power plug thingy and change the profile to Power Management Off.
When I do that I get this:
See, my CPU frequency jumps to 1.7GHz and stays there.
Of course, I don’t recommend this and suggest using the Adaptive setting in the Power Management and letting the OS figure out how much performance you need. It’s actually surprisingly good at ramping up when you need it to. You can right Rightmark CPU Clock Utility with Always on Top so you can watch the frequency change as you’re loading new programs or running your programs. You’ll see that it gives you just the right amount of performance you need while throttling down when you’re idle or doing very non-intensive tasks (like most of the time). Don’t forget that a lot of tasks really don’t require a lot of performance. You’ll see the processor throttle to 600MHz a lot because frankly that’s equivalent to a 1.4GHz Pentium 4 which is way more than needed for most everyday tasks.

True.. but why does Windows Media Player plays my mp3 like scratched CD during my multi-tasking? It’s alright when I use my othe PC with the same program running and it’s a Celeron 2.4Ghz? I already understand the scaling, speed and etc. And yeah I did make the adjustment of putting WMP to Above Normal, using Omegadrivers.. by the way PPL the latest Omgedrivers the v2.6.05a is gonna slow your S.. I tried going back and forth from v2.5.97a to v2.6.05a , to see the problem, still the previous version is the best, so far (the v2.6.05a) it slowed KOTR, now it’s fine again when reverted back to v2.5.97a .. so back to the WMP playing MP3s during multi-tasking, it seems like it slows the music and then goes to normal speed and then sometimes it plays like scratched CD.. (I had WMP v10) It seems to me WMP has some bug or something, even when minimized and visualization is turned to No Visualization.
That’s really strange. I can play MP3s in WMP (with visualizations enabled) while doing many things and it never skips. I wonder if you have any rogue processes in the background causing the slowdowns.

So far I have Anti-Virus & Firewall applications.. it shows 63 processes.. and all process seems legit to me.. anyone has this same numbers? Anyway, I stopped Nero, like burning from my external DDRW3, then it went fine it’s fine.. memory is in the 608Mb at highest and it scales down to 587Mb.. then it plays right there.. maybe it’s Nero..
