Hi,

Is there anyway to connect a Sony Vaio T1XP (T170) to a TV. I am looking to play DVD’s and .avi’s through it. I appreciate there is only a VGA port but I wondered if a VGA-TV converter would work such as the cable being sold on Ebay:

This looks like it would work although it does confirm that:

It will work with laptops and desktops with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability.

Please, check your PC & Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability to ensure this cable will work for you!

Now the fact that the T1 does not have a specific video out function I wondered if this capability exists?

Can someone have a look at their advanced display properties and click on displays. Hopefully there will be three shown (Monitor, Panel and TV).

If this does not work, is there another way?

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if there is an equivalent device available in the UK as I have been unable to find anything like it.

Obviously if the ebay item that I confirmed would work with a vaio, then this would be the cheapest and most compact option:

Honestly, i’ve never seen a 15-pin vga terminate in a S-video / Composite before.  It would have to be a very non-standard 15-pin port, since the standard 15-pin vga pinout has no composite video signal.

I have seen them quite often. Matrox products use exactly those kind of cables for their TV out functionality.

However, I’m really sure that our beloved T and TR VAIOs don’t provide any TV output on the VGA out port.
