Seems as if Apple did with the release of the Mac Mini with 256 MB RAM.  Although they have since lowered the 475 pricetag according to several reports.

You would be suprised by the number of people who think only Sony RAM will work in a Sony PC (the same goes for Dell, Apple, HP, etc.).  I know a buddy of mine paid a butt load extra for his HP laptop because he thought it could only use HP RAM (and no matter what I told him he wouldn’t listen to me).
