W00t, after that whole long ass journey, i finally got my TR2A laptop this morning. Got her off ebay for 1175+25 for shipping. Great laptop, but now i need to find dvd playing software, buy a wireless router, clean up/organzie my table so i can have a somewhat decent looking workspace, and find a place to plug in the charger :shock:

Its all good though…

Hey, im actually posting on my TR. (im stealing my friends internet, i was at his apartment tonight, and he lives 3 STORIES BELOW, i come home, and i see that my TR is still on AIM:shock:  ). Anyways, the signal strength is low to very low, and im gonna go to compusa to buy a wireless router tomorow. Does anyone have any suggestion for a wireless router from comp usa? The absoloute most im willing to spend is $50, and that has to be for a damn good wireless router.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Congrats for the price 1200 USD and the new TR2 you got, you’ll be more than pleased.

2. Take nothing else than LINKSYS, I just love this company and they are the best value for your moneys worth. I have both the WRT54G & GS.

3. Why don’t you try getting a WIFI repeater like WRE54G and share costs and internet connection with your friend (unless you are utilizing all the bandwidth all the time assuming your frined has a DSL connection.

edit: georgi0 how’s the performance of the WRT54GS? I have a WRT54G myself and was thinking of switching to a new router but I’m afraid that I will have to reconfigure everything again.

well the new firmware supports backup of settings.  i have not tried passing settings from G to GS or vice versa but when you intall the new firmware it leaves the settings as they were.

I really like the performance but it all depence on what you have inside the walls and your house.

THe worst thing i’ve done was to get the extra gain antennas of linksys. what a waste of money.. (for my case) i could have gotten another repeater for the same value.

If you have a WRT54G/GS then I assume that you know about   lots of custom firmwares etc. Can make your router do lots of stuff, and is much more stable than the linksys pos that it ships with…
