[quote author=“one028”]well if you try to replace the drive with the dvd writer that sony uses in the tr3 series, wont the bezel be the same? im confused….sorry
Not necessarily. Sony doesn’t make the drives. They typically use Matsushita (Panasonic) drives for notebook devices. Matsushita makes a basic drive mechanism and then different manufacturers put their own bezels on the drives. Matsushita even sells the drives as OEM products with plain bezels.
So, buying the drive with a Sony bezel is nearly impossible as Sony won’t be selling it. You might be able to find the same drive with the generic bezel but then you’d have to figure out a way to get the Sony bezel off your original drive and stick it on the newer drive.
I’m surprised that Sony doesn’t make the drives themselves when they’re one of the leaders in the DVD+RW/-RW market. I don’t care too much for the built-in laptop ones since they’re only DVD-R/RW and that’s only 2x/1x. Burning full DVDs at 1x and even 2x is pretty painful. I want to see who is the first to release a dual format 4x/2x DVD burner in a notebook.
