I’ve decided to make the plunge on the T170.  Is straight through Sony my best bet?  Is it possible to get silver anywhere?  What’s a great travel mouse for it?  I’d like to have it by Dec29th….taking a long flight to Hawaii on the 30th.  Thanks!

You just have to look around. Most retailers are offering the 150. Even the 150P is rather hard to find outside Sony. I bought from Sony because they had a free printer and 3-year accidental damage protection at half off.  This combination made Sony the cheapest at the time (if you like the extras).

BTW - I think you’re going to love this computer once you get it.

Here you’ll find a lot of retailers selling the T170P. DON’T buy from Sony…they rip you off.

Why do you say that Sony rips you off? Sony is sellling the computer for $2600, plus free express shipping and a free $120 printer.  Some of the sites on the link are charging more than Sony without the freebees. Some are charging less, but don’t have the computer in stock. If you want the freebees Sony is offering, it’s not such a bad deal.

I’ve bought from Vaios from Sony and from other retailers. Sony has always done exactly what they said they would do. I can’t say that about all the web retailers I’ve ever delt with.

Pre-sales support by phone at Sony is excellent. It is non-existant at some of the other retailers.

If you don’t want the freebees Sony is offering the day you buy, I agree they are more expensive. But I don’t think it’s a rip-off.

I agree with deichenlaub, well in australia anyway, sony has the best support, service, response time and prices as they always have bundles with extra gear. Unless it is different in the states, why would you make such a comment Rahul?.. have you had a bad experience with sony?

depends ... right now is not the very best time to buy because most of the “discounts” are not real discounts, rather than just here is a freebie, so we can clean our shelfs, but ain’t worth nothing.

There was an awesome deal a week ago for $770 in goodies with a purchase of 1999$ or more on sony style, combined with 10% off…

The offer included 200$ ecoupon, free printer, free msn watch and the computer.

Besides that, I shop for sony around, not at sonystyle.com, for example newegg.com have lower prices, I got my S from OfficeDepot for 2099$ and with all the rebates, discounts, trade-in, dropped the price to 698.17$, which was a smoking deal.

Before I bought my TR3AP3, I had made up my mind to buy it off sonystyle.com until I found out that the taxes would come upto $258 which make the total $2999 + $258 = $3257. I got so pissed, that I almost gave up on buying the TR until I came across pricegrabber and saw the TR3AP3 not only available for a lesser price (2845) at another store but no sales tax too. Ok, the sales tax thing really depends on if the store has presence in the state to which it’s being shipped, so I can let that ST thing go by but what about the price difference of $154? Finally since I bought it off that other online store I saved $413 which is a hefty sum of money.

To give you another eg, someone has a TR3AP2 from sonystyle and paid $2800 for it and I paid $2845 for my TR3AP3…effectively I got the DVD writer for $45.

I guess the tax system works differently over there… in australia, all the retailers have the units at the same price, but sony throw in free express shipping and a few extra’s. I don’t think that they give retailers much room to move on the price as they seem to sell it only just above cost.

that sux, although even in India, you have pretty much the same system for a lot of items. In USA, it’s completely different, and thats why I dont like sonystyle one bit.

Well I decided to go ahead and order the T170 from direct from Sony….gets here Wednesday.

well, you just have to try…I was ordering something for myself yesterday from sonystyle and couldn’t find a place to enter a coupon code…

just give sony a call and ask them if they’ll accept that code now.

I called back and was told that once I get my tracking #, which should be emailed to me by tomorrow morning, then I can call back and get the 10% off.  That way I don’t have to refuse shipment, which would be my other option.  Thanks!
