On certain Saturdays or days off I can use my laptop from 8AM-1AM… 17 hours. And I dont turn it off. I may occasionally put it on standby if I plan on doing something else for more than 30 min but overall, my laptop is always with me in my house or out… unless Im out at the mall or something with friends in which case it would be really stupid for me to carry it around all day. But if I’m in a car. Its with me.

I’ve probably had mine on for a few days at a time, with just the screen off.

3 weeks stright. (with wifi and bt on 24/7. lcd off when not using.)

Mine is on 24/7, for several weeks at a time. I may restart it after 2 or 3 weeks, but I haven’t selected the “Shut Down” option in… don’t even know if I ever have!

Are you talking about how long the battery lasts?  I get about 4 hours with my standard battery.

If you are talking about how long my laptop is on, it comes on when I get up in the morning and stays on until I go to bed, about 16 hours every day.  I work at home and use it for work and play.

are there any problems with HD failure rising when a laptop is on for 24/7? I’m wondering, because I use mine to transfer files (read: steal anime) from the net, usually overnight and over a period of several weeks.  I a

by switching your computer on and off multiple times a day..the hard drive spins up and down.. it is stressed more than if it was constantly spinning. as with all electronics, switching relays on and off and such will generally cause more stress to the device than leaving it on constantly.

I’ll leave mine on for hours at a time, sometimes overnight. Unless there is some disk access going on, the drive eventually goes to standby and the LCD shuts down.

That’s why mine is on: eMule. It’s been on nearly non-stop since… oh, summer of 2003.

yeh whenever i keep it on while im away at uni, i have this little fan that keeps the laptop cool. It becomes necessary coz otherwise the TR can get soo hot as you mentioned. It doesnt REALLY affect the system speed but its always good to restart your computer every now and then, just to clear some clutter from the RAM.
