[quote author=“tifosiv122”]On another note, NFS froze on me once, I had to shut down and turn it on again. Then another time NFS failed to start and the PSP just shut itself off. NFS is the game i’ve played the most so I don’t know if it’s the game..the PSP…or something else.
Me thinks its the bad karma of buying EA software.

Eh, I have my opinion on that…i’d like to meet a programmer that didn’t work hellish hours. I was on salary and sometimes had to work 12 hours a day no breaks…well major ones. Technically they didn’t ask me to do it, but they give you unreasonable deadlines to meet. IMO if they don’t like it, quit and work somewhere else…the grass is always greener.
Anyway, I played NFS about 3 hours today and I still have 61% battery left…woo hoo!

Well, putting the crappy working standards aside, theres also the part where they made their licenses exclusive to stifle fair competition. Not to mention churning out the same uninspired sports games every year. I die a little inside every time I see someone reach for some EA Sports title at Frys.
The console itself is pretty impressive. I guess there isn’t anything about it I can say that a hojillion reviews online and offline haven’t said since the Japanese launch. As for the matter of justification, I think being a total corporate whore for Sony pretty much sums it up nicely.

If you were them, wouldn’t you try and do the same?
Thats a good point. Many of the best games are good because they’re labors of love. The programmers actually enjoy making it, so its more than just the sum of its parts. Save for a few exceptions, EA’s recipe is to combine some franchise or sports league license with the same basic gameplay as everything else in the genre, wrapped in pretty 3D graphics. I don’t get the feeling that any of the programmers at EA really love what they create, as if they are just going through the motions.
[quote author=“tifosiv122”]Lucky you, 2 PSPs!
Going to make one a birthday gift for a friend. Picked em up from a Gamestop in the morning; didn’t have to preorder, thanks to the additional units at launch. I guess Sony learned its lesson from the PS2 launch (though if the PSP launched in the X-mas season I’m pretty sure it would have sold out).
Finally picked mine up after 2 exchanges due to dead pixels.
I’m Canadian, and despite my best efforts, I ended up having to buy the Gretzky “Value Pack”. That game is TRASH! Super long initial loading times, less than pleasing frame rates. Definitely is a detriment to showing off the PSP’s stuff.
Also, EB can go suck it through a straw. Pre-ordered Ridge Racer in store 3 WEEKS ago, and I go in today and lo and behold, no Ridge Racer. So I’m stuck with one crappy game, and I don’t know when I’ll be able to pick up at least Lumines or Ridge Racer. Maybe I’ll try the Chinese mall tomorrow because they don’t close for Good Friday.
But all and all, impressed with the screen and movie playback and all the little things.
A weird day, so happy that the PSP is out and I can finally hold it in my hands, but at the same time, so pissed about the dead pixel hassle, EB shafting me on Ridge Racer, having to end up paying more for the “Gretzky Value Pack”, and finding out first hand that Gretzky is more useful as a doorstop than as a game.
temptation got the best of me.. i went to circuitcity to pick up some games for the psp.. it turns out they had a few psp left instock. as hard as i tried i couldn’t leave the store without one.. so i picked up another one. gonna give my bro the other one.

I don’t know how we are handling each mini review for games, so i’ll keep placing mine here until we decide…
I just picked up Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade
Essentially this is a top-down hack and slash, ala Diablo. It drives me nuts that the dialog isn’t spoken, but I guess the UMD has limitations. The graphics are very sharp but blur a bit when moving. The controls are responsive and the music and sound effects are fitting. I think this might give me one of the longer game plays out the bunch I picked up.
I was reading in some other PSP forums of Web browser possibility on a PSP. Sony might release a firmware update for that. Would not that be great!!! Some guys actually already hacked their PSPs and are able to surf the web: WipeOut game showed an access to the browser idea, and if you are cool with tunneling - it is possible to view web pages.
