Damn, I should have asked around if anyone wanted to buy my tag-along copy of Gretzy that comes with my rip-off CANADIAN PSP (j/k)
Erik, regarding Lumines, when you match 4 blocks, it stays there until that bar that sweeps across the page clears it, that’s why it seems to not clear immediately. The bar is supposed to follow a musical rhythm, so I guess that’s where it’s kind of unique, otherwise, you would just be playing Tetris all over again, right? I guess that’s what the “puzzle x music” concept of the game is about.
Oh, a question for you Erik, as a racer, which one is better, Wipeout Pure or Ridge Racer. I’m leaning towards Ridge Racer now, because I like more “realistic” looking racing vehicles and tracks over the futuristic racing games (like Wipeout), and I’m not too much of a fan of having powerups to shoot at other vehicles, I’d rather have a good ol’ fashion race. But I’ve been hearing so much good things about Wipeout Pure that I’m kind of wavering on my decision to get Ridge Racer. I know you said that Wipeout Pure is better that Ridge Racer in your opinion, but would you still recommend Wipeout Pure over Ridge Racer given my personal preference (keep in mind I seem to be biasing towards Ridge Racer already in my post, but I actually really don’t mind playing futuristic racers, only that I enjoy “realistic” racers more, like the type with actual pavement tracks and more real-life scenery)? Thanks for any insight you can offer
Sup guys… Happy PSP Day!
Man, I went to bed too late and now at work I feel like after hangover. See what gadgets do to you…. hehe… I watched some Spiderman 2 and wow what a device to watch a movie. I really thought it would not be that great to watch a movie on a PSP and I was wrong, now I kinda understand why Sony is pushing the videos on that console. I am gonna try to rip some movies on MS Duo Pro and see how that works out.
Here are some pics of PSP Madness: http://news.com.com/Photos:+Midnight+madness+for+Sony’s+PSP/2009-1043_3-5633462.html?tag=st_lh
i got mine too shortly after midnight. lined up at a local meijer store at 9:30 and was issued #11 (out of 38 units).
have yet to open the box because the wife is mad that i worked until 9:00, went to meijer, picked up a psp, got home way late, and had to go to work around 7:00. perhaps the biggest reason my wife is upset is that today is my anniversary. i told her that i had to get one because 3-24 is a special day. anyway, it’ll be hard to ignore the psp in the box for long. hopefully, i’ll bust it out over the weekend.
sounds like i’ll have to inspect for damages. anyway, the only game i have so far is metal gear acid. i want to get tiger woods at some point. wipeout and lumines look fun too.
It’s official I have a PSP in my hands!! Stood in line early am like 6am.. 2 hrs is not that bad.. it went fast cuz people are talking in line.. Then Bestbuy dude started handing out numbers and right now it’s charging.. I’ll grab some games later on.. I notice some few dusts inside though on top of the screen..
most of the Best Buys in the Chicagoland area had at least 200 units. The really large stores carried around 300. what was really funny to me is that when i went to Meijer last night (like a Super Wal-Mart), there was a Best Buy employee towards the back of the line. i don’t think he got one. he came too late.
Haha…i think i’m the only one who DOESN’T have one yet. I do WANT one but I’m going to wait a bit until after the madness dies down. Plus, if I get one now then I’ll be distracted from work and that’s never a good thing.
I think part of it is the line up of games…I’m not really into any of the launch titles. I’m waiting for the truly unique games to come out that aren’t ports of already existing franchises. I thought it might also double as a portable media player as well but the lack of storage is huge issue. 1GB MS Duo sticks are $200. 512MB can be found for $70 but still, it’s only 512MB. That’s not a lot of music and my smaller portable audio devices hold more, are smaller, and last longer. Portable video isn’t all that rosy either since you need to convert everything and I live in Los Angeles. We basically have no form of public transportation so I have to drive everywhere and can’t watch video on it.
Oddly enough, the one killer app for PSP for me would be GPS. It would be nice to have GPS in the unit and also be able to play MP3s from it. However, we run into the storage issue again. 1GB may be enough storage for maps in your state, but there won’t be any room left for music.
At any rate, I’ll still get one…just because

Honestly, I like NFS the best of the racing games…Wipeout (at least for multiplayer mode) allows you to disable weapons, if that is a concern. I like RR the least because the drifting is overstressed…much more then previous RR’s…at least that’s what it seems.
Im going to wait till these things have the ability to write on UMDs as well. So i can copy movies and/or games plus music. I dont think it should be much time till blank UMDs start to retail, that’d be wicked for storing movies coz frankly PSP is by far the best looking video player ( not exactly at the moment but .. ) available.

Metal Gear Acid is pretty unique, and definitely not a port of any previous MGS. If you’re a Metal Gear fan who also happens to enjoy strat rpgs and card collecting games, I think I can safely say theres nothing else like it. It’s not canonical Metal Gear, thats for sure.
Might be a good idea to hold off for a bit simply because theres a lot of talk about dead pixels. My guess is they compromised on manufacturing QA in order to boost launch quantities.
