I mean, can you even hear your TR? When I first got it, I was thinking how quiet it was, but I didn’t want to say anything yes because I couldn’t be sure how loud it would get, with the fan and the harddisk.
Now that I have it for a while… even when the fan is on and the harddisk is spinning, I most often have a hard time even noticing if it’s on.
I agree, it’s quite splendid how they managed to get it so quiet.
- Althought it seems, low fan noise is at the cost of the operating temperature, as people with the S have commented on lower case temperatures (and greater fan noise) than the TR.
I’m left handed, and the heat coming out of the front left side of the unit gets quite uncomfortable after an hour or so.. :(
One of the few times I ever heard the fan was when it didn’t hibernate properly and I stuffed it in my neoprene bag. That sucker was HOT by the time I got home, but the fan did its job and there was no permanent damage. The only other time I’ve heard it other than holding my head to it was during the Great American Blackout of 2003 when there was comparatively little ambient noise.
Yeah, the TR is a very quiet machine. I have never heard fan noise at all and the HDD i hear sometimes but is not really noticable unless it is being accessed extensively. The thing that is the loudest is the optical drive when it is spinning up. Other than that my TR is the quietest computer i have ever owned.
I have no complaints with the TR, other than i wish that SONY had put a DOTHAN in it before they decided to discontinue it.
Thanks. :D Yes, I know it’s a photoshop combining Leonid Brezhnev and Neo. The full pic has all the war ribbons going down his left side. I found it a few years ago and got so much of a kick out of the sheer randomness of it that I used it as my Clie background for a while.
I have heard there is way to lower the fan how?
Plus, it s the hard disk that on bottom left corner right… because that s things makes noise…. unless i have my palm on it ( when typing..) it s there any way to turn that noise down ( beside turning the radio on )
thanks for your help

You’re in Europe, right? You can just download all latest drivers and software versions from the VAIO support site. At some point, you will be asked to enter the serial number of your notebook and right after that, you are presented with everything relevant to download.
When I first opened up my TR for the very first time I immediately drooled when I saw the Xbrite display. But, after using it for a while I noticed how quiet it was and I was so impressed by it. I totally agree with you FrodoID about how great it is when it is so quiet. I’ve never had a desktop or laptop that was so quiet before, and even when the fan runs it’s quiet as hell. I love it! :D
