This really depends on your level of knowledge about device drivers, and moving files and folders around….
basically what I did was this…
copied all drivers and apps off the cd to a folder on my hard drive, then extracted all files individually into folders that meant something to me… ie… you extract the video driver… its default name might be 65932de23… so you rename it video, and put it in a brand new folder where you specify, named “video”... this makes it heaps easier later…
when you’re done extracting all the files… you need to go into the device manager in windows, and find out which devices need to be installed… they will be the ones that have a little yellow icon next to them… and say something along the lines of “the drivers for this device have not been installed”... or “this device is not working properly”...
Right click on these… one by one, and select update driver from the list.
Make sure you select the little box that says “specify the location of the driver” and point it to the location on your hard drive where you extracted all your drivers, neatly in their respective folders…
when you’re done… do the same with the applications, and utilities, provided also on the cd… but of course, only install those that you want… otherwise you defeat the purpose of doing the whole excercise… to reduce the bloat factor…
hope this helps a little… I’ll keep an eye on this post and see how you get on… don’t be afraid to ask for help…
as an example of how I organised my files, drivers, and utilities for my vaio, you may view them at the following link… hell… if you’re really lazy, you could download them all from my webpage!!!
all the best
