[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”][quote author=“tifosiv122”]They are correct about the WiFi…the range on my 505 is much better then my TR. In fact, I pulled the card out and put it in my friends notebook and we got a much shorter range then I had in my 505.
The alienware might be light but i dont think it will be a sub-portable. Still cool though.

Really? The TR’s wireless (and my S for that matter) is better than any notebook I’ve owned using built-in or PCMCIA based wireless. In fact, I’ve never seen a PCMCIA wireless card perform better than built-in antennas unless the PCMCIA wireless card had an external attached antenna (like a cable connected to the PCMCIA card).
Of course, it could simply be the Intel chipset itself being the lower powered. My Atheros based wireless cards are much stronger than the Intel based ones. On the flipside, I noticed the Intel based ones are much more dynamic in performance often slowing down the connection when nothing’s going on to save on battery.
Yeah…in my classroom I could never pick up an AP…now I can. We pulled my card and tried it in the PC of the kid who sits next to me, he couldn’t pull up the AP. in the 505 The signal is weak and its got WAP, but I still see it now, and I haven’t all semester…including when I had the TR.
Not too scientific, but I believe its because of the 505.
