After some months I have seen that the right silver botton in damaged.
What can I do to substitute it?
Can I ask Sony to substitute it with a new one?
Is it expansive in your opinion?

unless you jammed the button, you could always call and tell sony that it’s not working. 

i believe your warrantee should be atleast 1 year

You think with how much we pay for this Sony Products they should up the Warranty more than a year…

Look at BMW and there 4 year maintence free service…It would be nice to be treated like that as a customer…

I think BMW’s are overpriced…But, with that type of service agreement…Its almost worth it to buy one. :wink:

Soon a warranty will be less then 1 year. Recently (with the exception of Seagate) most HDD warranties dropped from 3 years to 1 year. Most digital electronics now carry a 90 day warranty like all of Rio’s products. In both cases, sales have not been effected significantly.

It will take one major company to drop to a 90 day warranty on laptops, drop the price $200, and the rest will follow.

As for the car analogy, Mercedes as of MY05 no longer gives free service for the first 4 years of the car, they figured out the sales they would lose by not offering it does not outweigh the cost of offering it.

Makes sense…I haven’t seen any numbers on this subject…But, you make a great point…

I think it can appeal to 2 different types of consumers…The ones that want to have the service incorporated and the one that would rather do it their selves…

Neverless you still have the two parties..

Well, you always have the option of buying an extended warranty. I think the cheapest notebook you can buy is around $500-650ish, if they could drop that by another $100-150 dropping to a 30-90 day warranty, I am sure sales would jump…

You are saying that they sale new notebooks for $500?  The cheapest I’ve seen is some where near the $600 range…

If they could drop the price even further like $399 brand new decent low end notebooks…I think they could get away with a 30-day warranty…

8 years ago I doubt you could find a sub-$1000 notebook, let alone a sub $1,500 one.

Well, they sold a $99 full PC at Walmart a while back…I don’t think most people ever assumed a full PC would be $99…so who really knows. I’d like to think one day a notebook could be made for around $250 or so.

IMO remove the battery and drop the warranty. Belive it or not, a lot of users never use their notebook on battery life, its just a computer they can take to work and use at home. Plenty of people still use their notebooks well after their battery fails to hold a charge.

I’d create a PC with the option of a battery, but you can remove it, loose the extra weight, and save the $100 or so from that. Drop the warranty to 30 days, another $100-150. I could see that with a small, cheap, non-TFT display, for a total price of around $250. Great starter PCs for students or for people who want something portable (typing/bills/internet) but cannot afford a full notebook.
