Do you guys know the brilliant Acer Arcade software? It allows you to watch DVD,pictures of listen to music without having to turn Windows on. Just by pressing the Arcade button. So much more easier, and better for the battery. It turns your laptop into a real dvd player. Only problem that soft is an Acer sofware that comes with their Aspires
(little grey button bottom left)
I can get the software from a friend of mine who owns this very nice machine. So my question is, is there anyway to make it work on the tr? We could use one of the buttons on the side of the screen to turn it on..
I can t do it, but maybe one of you guys know how to do.
If it ever works i can share the soft…
thanks for your help :D
I think thats what we expected when the T was shown at first (since other companies like Acer have been doing it for a while) however Sony, in their wisdom, decided against it for whatever reason.
Not sure why, IMO its a great feature, I don’t see the point of the buttons outside if you can’t use them with the PC off.
Is there any way to make it work for our vaios?
the buttons are only to launch the prog.
help us with your wisdom :D
there is always a way with computer

I would say no because it would need to draw power somehow and the Vaio is not setup for that.
[quote author=“dbs”]Does the Acer actually wake up the system processor or does it simply use dedicated hardware? If it’s instant-on I’d suspect the latter.
very good question… i dont know.. all i know it s that when the acer is off and you press the “arcade” button the soft starts… can t tell more.. :?
Hmmm. Don’t know much to think of it…I think Erik is right on this one…That it would have been pre-wired to use it own power and control for the Dvd player and not using the cpu at all…
My gut feeling is no, you can’t simply install this on a VAIO and expect it to work. I think it’s more than just software and that there’s some special hardware that helps to control this.
That’s not to say it isn’t possible but someone would have to write drivers for Linux to access the specialty keys which is a huge undertaking. By the time they finished, I’m sure the T will be an obsolete model.
It would also have to be tuned for the T or TR. Just because Windows doesn’t need to be loaded doesn’t mean that you’re going to get better battery life.
[quote author=“writetovarun”]I’m pretty sure its just an acer thing. I use GEEBOX to play my divx files without needing to load windows. Works pretty well.
Does geebox plays dvd as well? Is there any soft that plays dvd without having to turn windows on?
Groovy, dont you think it saves a bit of battery ?
