you are right. in standby mode, your computer does not power off completely. at the highest level of standby, all power is turned off except what is necessary for the ram to retain its data. because standby does not save your desktop state to disk, a power failure while on standby can cause you to lose unsaved information.
so for example if the TR is low in battery and i only have an extra battery, no charger, how do i swap the battery without losing my work or shutdown? the only way is shut down, but that means it will drain the battery when u first power up. stand by purpose is to save the juice that is wasted in power up.
