in? i assume it’s ok coz i have been doing it all the time to conserve the battery life since leaving the battery there charging all the time is not good, right? i take it out when it’s done charging and when the pc is using AC power while the PC is still operating in windows xp.

there is no battery memory effect with a lithium-ion battery. you can leave the battery charged without fear of reducing its charge capacity. though they are subject to aging, even if not in use. storing the battery in a cool place reduces the aging effect.
i do it as well from time to time to charge my bp2t and bp3t.. though you are opening a protection circuit that maintains voltage and current within safe limits every time you do this.

I can rest assured then
linc- do you think its bad to take the battery out and have the connections exposed?
depends on your definition of bad. if nothing touches the connections then you’ll be fine. exposed energized connections/circuits are more susceptible to shorts.
is it ok if the battery is being charged ALL the time (attached and AC adapter is plug in)? i read somewhere that it’s not good for the battery, but i might be wrong.

Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)
looks like what i m doing is right…. it’s better to have no battery rather than have it charged all the time.
Aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored. lithium-based batteries have a lifetime of 2-3 years. The clock starts ticking as soon as the battery comes off the manufacturing line. The capacity loss manifests itself in increased internal resistance caused by oxidation. Eventually, the cell resistance will reach a point where the pack can no longer deliver the stored energy, although the battery may still contain ample charge.
it’s going to die sooner or later no matter how much you take care of it..

That’s my outlook as well. I’ll use it as much as I can, I don’t need to take care of it…in a year or so, i’ll buy another one and do the same. I won’t use a battery that has less then 30 mins life anyway, no matter how well you take care of it, your only extending that time, not worth the effort in my opinion.

batteries today are more sophisticated than those made in the 80’s. today’s batteries have circuits that control their own voltage. which means they don’t rely on the charger
[quote author=“miccoli”]So, the average lifespan of a battery is about 1 - 1.5 years? This sounds very bad… Sony batteries are like, so expensive.
Depends on how much you use them and other various conditions. I’d say a bit longer, like 2-2.5ish before you really start noticing a huge drop in battery life.

What are the chances of finding a battery for the TR in 2.5 years?

not too bad. i bought a replacement f505 battery 3 years after i bought it
what’re the chances that you’ll still be using your TR in 2.5 years?
