You can check out the Australian T model ( http://www.sony.com.au/catalog/popups/prod_popup.jsp?productId=VGNT17GPS&startIndex=1 )
It’s a nice silver colour, too bad the keyboard isn’t a light shade of grey with the TR retro-futuristic font :( otherwise it would rival the TR seriously in looks
I’ll be getting one when my exams are over (in about 2 weeks time) so I’ll post up my findings about what Sony Down Under has to offer.
Oh, and there’s no blu tooth in the spec sheet :? but oh well, I don’t have any blu tooth enabled devices anyway.

Sorry for double posting, I just wanted to bump this up and find out what you people think about the Australian version of the T. Do you guys think it looks any better?

Looks nothing special to me. I’d still go for an original TR or for more power the S series.
If this had been the original TR design I don’t think I’d have looked twice and never bought it.

Whats special about this again? So the only change in the australian T series is that it comes in silver while models in other countries dont ? Pointless dont you think. There is nothing out of the way in this model to convince people. If the TR ever gets completely discontinued, your much better off going for the S if the price difference wasnt much.

Well, the T17 retails for Au$4299 and the S28 (with the Radeon 9700) also retails for Au$4299. I only want the T because of it’s size and I also reckon it looks better than the S.

I’d buy the S type over the T series any day, but thats just me and yes I agree with you , the T looks much better than the S type.

But TR looks better still.
I like the look of the S more than the T! Just shows how tastes vary!

Don’t mean to put anything down, but it looks almost a bit… boring. From the design of the T series I’ve seen so far, I think the coloured lid fits well. This one seems to be missing something, IMO.

I think the T looks just as ugly as any of IBM’s laptop’s (AKA bricks).

Yeah, it looks kinda funny; why did they ever arrive at the notion at donning the “squarish” look? They wanna do an IBm or a Dell? Hmm… I still love the TR’s design. (although I am using an S…)

Funny, I also had the screen flicker. I updated the video drivers from the sony site and it went away. Now, though, I notice one of the hinges (right side) is loose and rattles if you touch it. Ugh! Would you kindly check yours to see if it does the same thing. I might have just missed it and it may just be normal. I still do not like it for a machine of this price.
Thanks,
Bill

Check mine and it does….Never noticed it or would think to touch it and try to make it rattle though… I think they probably made it this way for movement…
I personally wouldn’t worry about it…
As for the screen flickering….That doesn’t sound kewl…That has not happened to me…(crossing my fingers) Its coincidence it happen to the both of you though../..

[quote author=“Heyo”]Oh, forgot to check the hinge.
I wouldn’t really describe mine as a rattle, it barely budges at the moment.
I suspect this will loosen up over time though. I don’t think its the hinge…What we are touching is just a plastic cover that goes over the hinge….
Nothing to wory about….I don’t think it will get looser in time…Because it justs snaps in place.
