[quote author=“snowcone”]This post may be a bit premature, but I was hoping some TR owners with the BT upgrade could comment on the compatibility of the Sony’s BlueSpace (BS) software with BT-enabled phones…
The 650 is slated to be released tomorrow, 10/25/04, and I was planning on upgrading from my current 600. I am also seriously considering installing the internal BT upgrade for my TR.
However, before I do so, I need to resolve 2 qualms:
1)Will the carrier (Sprint) provide software to connect the 650 to my PC? Or will I have to rely solely on Sony’s BS software (no pun intended) to recognize the device?
2)According to rumors on BargainPDA , the Sprint version of the 650 will support hands-free equipment and HotSync over Bluetooth, but will NOT support using the Treo as a dial-up modem for a laptop or other handheld. Can anyone clear this rumor up? (N.B. I currently use a USB cable to connect my Treo600 to my TR5, which allows me to use it as a dial-up modem using PDAnet software)
I’m hesitant to drop $150 on the BT upgrade for the TR and whatever inordinate amount of money they will be asking for the 650, if I won’t be able to use them together.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
I use a P900 which works OK with my Sony TR. I’ve had several problems, as most people do, pairing the 2 devices together but in the end got them working. Sony Blue space software is good, but i think you should get the Windows XP SP2 update on your computer. The bluetooth performance was better after the SP2 upgrade. I mean i could connect to more devices, including my 2nd laptop with the upgrade.
To answer your first query, yes sprint will provide software like some kind of PC suite to connect to your phone. Most of these PDA based phones come along with Syncronization software, and also software which enable you to put stuff onto the phone memory card. So i dont think that should be any problem. Anyway you dont need to install software on your PC to communicate to the phone, you can connect through BT directly with the built in windows interface and use it for the 2 way transfer.
I dont think i can answer your second query thou, but someone else on this forum will definately help you.
I am based in the UK where these laptops come with BT already and we dont need the seperate upgrade.
Cheers.
