[quote author=“PhilVaioFan”]I have half a mind to actually try upgrading my TR3 with 802.11b to 802.11a/b/g, using the Intel Pro Wireless 2915abg assuming I can get hold of one. The other half of my mind says I’m crazy to even think of attempting it.
Anyway, it occured to me that 802.11b and g both operate on 2.4GHz while 802.11a operate on 5GHz. Is the built-in antenna designed to work in both bands? If the antenna is not designed to work in 5GHz, the board will eventually be damaged when accessing an 802.11a network. Then just going with an 802.11b/g solution (Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG) would be best.
Yes, it can handle 5GHz. In Japan, the TR models came with 802.11a capable models. Also, from the service manual I’ve seen, there’s no different part number for a different antenna.
