I was going to get a Sony LCD to go with my TR2, but ended going with an NEC LCD1765 instead. It has a glossy front just like the TR’s screen, and many reviews have lauded its image quality and great refresh rate at a reasonable price.

NECs are great and I’m a big fan of Samsung Syncmasters as well. I’m loathe to say it, but I was VERY impressed by the Dell UltraSharp 1703FP that came with my computer at work. It’s not quite on par with the TR screen, but it’s close.

Unfortunately, you can’t use any of Apple’s LCDs with the TR, I’ve tried to hook up my 17” Apple display at work with no success. The problem is that VGA is an analog format and ADC and DVI are digital. You can hook up a computer with a DVI out to an Apple display with a DVI>ADC adapter, but VGA>ADC adapters are hard to find and cost almost as much as a monitor! ($300) If you’ve found one for $19, please link to it, as I would love to use the Apple LCD!

I would never use an external keyboard or mouse with my TR. I would only tend to use it where setting up a keyboard and mouse would be inconvenient at best. I don’t recall if you’ve invested in a BT dongle, but my preferred parts would be easily connectable and detachable from the laptop, so I like the Apple Wireless Keyboard and the Logitech MX 500 BT . My only worry would be that the MouseWare software would screw with the Sony touchpad software.

I picked up a nice Mag 17” LCD at Best Buy the other day.  Goes very well with the TR.  I’ve also got an optical mouse and keyboard attached to the TR via a USB hub.

I think you should just head on over to your electronics shop and go and look at the monitors to see which ones look the best to you. If you stick with the name brands you generally won’t go wrong as most companies are putting decent products out. I like the new Samsung 17” LCDs because they have crazy high contrast ratios (600:1) for white whites and black blacks.

Some of the newer monitors come with a TV tuner built-in (Samsung makes a few of these ) so you might want to look at those as it will lead to less desk clutter if you go with an external adapter. I think Sony also sells one LCD monitor that doubles as a TV.
