I ve notices my TR has getting really slow these days.. i dont know why dough

I takes hours to start up, to boot, even to open a window sometimes…
I don t have many things working in the background (basically only windows blind, norton antivirus). I have the original 256MB/mo
Is there anything I can do to speed up my system? Are there softwares that will help me to clean up?

Well, 256MB is really the bare minimum to run XP…although Erik and I…and probably everyone else knows that 512MB is the realistic minimum.

When may simply be running too much stuff at once for 256MB and swapping to disk. Granted, the TR’s boot time isn’t anything to write home about so you should be using Standby or Hibernate all the time. Even if the TR had a super fast boot time you should still be using Standby or Hibernate. It saves time and makes a lot of sense.

You may also want to try defragging your hard disk using the built in defragger as a hard disk can get messy over a period of time. Also, you may want to see if all the things you’re loading up at boot time are really necessary or not. If not, you can disable them to help speed up your boot times.

Of course, adding more memory won’t hurt either. Even simply going to at least 512MB should make a difference.

It analyses your bootup config and re-writes to to be alot quicker…. All you do is select Optimise system in the toolbar and it reboots your system once… It takes about 20mins on a TR for it to finish after the bootup… I use it on all my machines and it makes a HUGE difference to boot speeds… Hope it helps….

When my TR was taking 15-20 minutes to boot-up and nearly 5 minutes to go into hibernation, i took it to Best Buy and they used this Hitachi diagnostic software to determine if there was a problem.
And there was. After more than a month, my baby held on for me :cry: .  just kidding

In order to burn it to a cd just download a simple burning program like Deepburner if you don’t already have something like Nero or the like. Hope all works out good.

will bootvis, lower the time between the “power on” and the “log in” window?

Tip: Disable Windows’ Prefetcher:

Click on RUN and type “Regedit” [ENTER]

Search for “EnablePrefetcher“and verify it is the same branch as below

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]

Change your DWORD value to 0 (zero) - that disables the Prefetcher.

My start up loading bar only completes 2 cycles before going to the LogOn screen.

It is a tweak I swear by. It’s the first thing I do everytime I do a fresh install (once every 6 months).

Also worth mentioning, I’ve tried many diferent Windows skins programs. I ended up getting rid of all of them because of the drag they cause on the system. Check your Task Manager to verify the load.

Ok sounds dum but i have a lot of things in that last window, are you talking about the first one, called “defaut” ?

The key that has to be changed is the called EnablePrefetcher. Just right click it, select Modify and change its value to 0 (zero).

After this you can go to C:\Windows\Prefetch and delete everything in that folder.

This tweak will not mess up your system but registry tweaks should be taken very carefully. There’s very little room for errors when dealing with the Registry. The disclaimer was put there as a warning to not so knowledgeable users.
