I am one of those people that always needs weird cables…or can never find the right cable when I need it. I started stocking up on those ‘Zip’ type cables that retract and leave a small footprint during storage. I find that I can carry them and not worry about having tangled wires and such.
2 Weeks ago I found out that a 13 piece kit was available for $19.99 with a $10 mail in rebate. These cables usually cost $5-15 each so even without the rebate this seemed like a good deal.
The cables arrived today. They come in a foam padded leatherette case with a zipper, nicely packaged in my opinion. Here are the list of cables included:
[list=1]
[*]RJ-11 (Phone)
[*]RJ-45 (10/100 Ethernet)
[*]MicroHeadset (earphones + mic)
[*]FireWire (6 pin)
[*]USB AM/AF
[*]USB AM/AF (they give you 2 of them)
[*]USB Extender
[*]USB Adapter (A to B)
[*]RJ-45 Crossover Adapter
[*]Firewire 6 to 4
[*]Firewire 6 to 4 (they give you 2 of them)
[*]USB AM-AF to Mini 5 pin
[*]USB AM-AF to Mini 4 pin
[/list:o]
Technically only 6 devices are ‘Zip’ ones, but each device will come in handy and is worth every penny of the $20, let alone $10 after rebate.
I have tested several of them and had no issue, I used the headphones, not the best, but good in a tight situation.
The only problem that I see is that in the case, with every cable, it weighs as much as, well, prob. my 505. Yeah, so I initially wanted to carry it around in my bag, but I think I will take out a few and leave the rest at home and pray I never need anything I leave behind.
You can still purchase the cables at:
And the $10 rebate is still in effect until the end of the month, I believe.
