last week they Said they would begin supporting raw mp3, apparently they wont start right away.

They’re big and they want to milk every nickel from their music holdings. They also seem to like to create “standards” that lock consumers into their products or generate licensing fees. ATRAC, BETA, Memory Stick. If Sony hadn’t been so greedy your VCR would be a betamax. Until the TR I had no desire to own anything that used overpriced memory sticks. ATRAC, well, I guess they finally got a clue.

Well, I held the device in my hand 2 days ago and marveled at the size! Pity about the stupid ATRAC. In the words of a previous poster: they are still idiots.

Yes, but “slowly starting to get it” idiots. 

Of course, their implementation remains to be seen. Sony has the opportunity to totally change things around and shake up the market but only if they don’t stumble again. I know most of this new support will revolve around new products but Sony can score massive points by adding support to older products where possible. Right now, I don’t even know if that’s possible in their current lines that are tuned for ATRAC. I just don’t want them to pull a “well, with ATRAC3Plus, you get 20 hours of battery life but only 10 when playing MP3s.”  :?

It’s more like “lock you in”. I swear if they thought they could get away with non-standard USB and other ports they’d do it.

That’s why I only bought enough MS Pros to give me no-hard-drive media playback on the TR and enough Pro Duos to meet my photo needs on my T1. Between my 6-in-1 PC Card Flash media adapter and an on-the-way 1GB USB Flash drive I’ll be able to move data around any way I need to.

I like the T1 camera and will prob. use it for years, but it’s likely the first and last camera I’ll ever buy that uses MS. I didn’t like the idea of MS when Sony first pushed it on the public and I like it less now that I’m stuck using it.

You mean like Apple USB keyboard extender cables?
