Today on my Sony VAIO TR3AP2, the hard drive ceased to operate. Worked fine yesterday without a flaw, then today i try to boot up in college, and i get a slight error at my boot manager, reboot loads fine, starts to load Gentoo, reaches the hard drive checks posts out a bunch of errors, i reboot once more and 6 loud clicks start to haunt me. Every time i rebooted the same 6 clicks returned, i went into the BIOS and it showed that no HDD was present, it had offically deceased, so now i have to shell out 130$ for a new Hitachi 1.8” HDD. For those that are interested and haven’t taken their TR3 apart yet i have pictures taken of it while it was gutless. You can check them out here . Such a shame i had so many pictures of my family, graduation, weddings etc on there and it’s all gone now…. Note to ALL TR3 owners, if your laptop drops, and it drops on the left bottom corner (right by the wirless on/off switch) back up all your data immedietly, i didn’t think much of it when mine fell but a week later the hdd died. Such a shame on my part. If anyone is interested in advice on how to take it apart id be happy to give it. Also does anyone know of any places that might sell this HDD for cheaper? http://www.newegg.com has it for 129.00$ any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where would i have it recoverd? and how might i ask?
Also, me being a complete moron and angry at the same time, when i was takeing off the IDE cable, i bent 4 of the pins on the HDD…... not a good day for me…..

Its ok…It happens to all of us….Do youself a favor…and take a break…go relax…I promise it will help you in the long run…
There are a lot of companies that specialize in recovering data from damaged HD…..They charge a lot of money….though….Just do a search on the web….I am sure you’ll come up with some results….

I’ve used the first company, my friend used the last one.
The only “goog” thing was i guess that i finally got a reason to take the TR3AP2 apart, which indeed was the easiest vaio i have taken apart. It just sucks, i really didn’t think a fall from a 2ft table would hurt it that bad, but then again why shouldn’t it… It’s all good it happens to everyone, kinda sucks right before payday something broke and i gotta spend money to fix it, it always turns out that way…....
Im pretty sure it was the drop but then again i did carry it around with me a lot so the constant shake of the bag or something could have added it to it but when you get a full 2ft fall in the general area where the HDD is and the laptop is on, i think that would have the most drastic effect on it. But then again who knows. However i do have one question for you guys, the black caseing on the hdd (if you look at the pics i have, when the hdd was still and i didn’t touch it yet theres black wrapping on it), is it necessary if i get a new HDD or can i just reuse it or what?
