I have a tr2, just got it.  I have very disappointed w/ the volumne.  Especially when listening with my very good headset.

Have you tried turning off the Bass Boost? (Fn+B) That did the trick for me and made the TR almost twice as loud.

Yea, I got the same problem.  Turning off the bass boost does increase the volume.  But it also degrades the sound quality.  This has not been an issue on my past Vaio notebooks.  It was one of the reasons to continue to buy Vaios, the sound quality was superior to most other notebooks.  The TR2 continues the tradition, but is in need of more volume, more than twice the volume.

The TR, though not as good as other laptops, blows away my old VAIO SR in terms of speaker quality. The physical placement helps a lot, as above the screen pointed at you works better than at the front of the palmrest.

The TR does sound better with the bass boost on, especially through headphones, but you can also add some bass back through the Advanced Sound Options if you turn it off. I just have the TR hooked up to external speakers at home and use earbuds on the go, so it all works out.
