I have come across a pfd file that has some details on upcoming S2 in Europe, so I suppose VAIO US will be also coming up with VGN-S200 series soon.
Here is the link: http://www.sony-europe.com/content/attachment/S2 series_ENG_IT.pdf
I can’t believe how quickly they launch these new models. I was looking last night and found a picturebook before the TR that had bluetooth?
I wonder if they just keep upgrading a little here and there to keep the dangling carrot?????
In my eyes its too much….But, with the new T-series and x505 I haven’t been too empressed….
But- Look at this new S2 they say it will have a new screen technology….If it makes it look a lot better, I will feel sorry for all the people that just bought there S series.
I am glad that I don’t feel too screwed, yet on my TR3A. I’ve thought about going with different model, but a memeber talked me out of it.
Actually the TR in my eyes is a nice, beautiful machine and with the upgrades that we can do with BT and 1 gig of ram and still have room for something else in the PC slot….
Makes it a very nice machine….I don’t need the HD space….but, I am sure some owners would like the 1.8 to get a lager harddrive space instead of 40gig.
[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”]It’s the same technology. The only improvements for European customers is the option to go up to 2GHz and the dual format DVD burner.
The US models already had the 2GHz option in the customized versions although we do not have the dual format capability yet.
What about that “black screen” technology they are talking about?
XBrite is known as different things in different countries.
It’s known as X-Black, ClearBlack, BlackOnyx, and others…ultimately it’s the exact same thing. And the screen on the S1 is exactly the same as it is on the S2.

Glad to hear….I was worried for the bunch of you that just joined the darkside
I am sure you’ll end up showing us how to upgrade the S anyway just like the TR
BTW- I think your a mastermind and should get awards for this site and popculture…..You truely have some great talent.
I love the design now and can’t wait for the update. With the little preview you’ve shown it looks like its going to be real nice.
[quote author=“Sony Vaio”]is doom 3 playable on the s1 machine?
Yes- you need to go into the S….Wait….we are in the S forums just do a search and you’ll find it… I think all the next generation games to date would play on that machine.
Its no TR when it comes to power and performance….

It’s more than playable although you’ll need to use third-party Omega drivers in order to get it to run the best. The default Sony drivers which haven’t been updated in a while don’t work very well and can hang the game. The latest Oemga drivers offer very good performance.
[quote author=“Anonymous”]yeah, it doesn’t look like the s2xx is going to be impactful versus the s170. I’d still like a faster hard drive, but I might just go ahead and open it up if I get one and install my own faster one.
I really wish it didn’t have that 9.5mm or whatever it was I read ultra slimline optical bay. I hope I’m wrong, but someone on one of these sites had a .pdf of the manufacturer of it.
David
yeah- its like us with the 1.8” harddrive….all thats available right now is the 40gig…..
There are some limiting factors out there to watch out for….But if there is something on the upcoming S that you like…I don’t see why you couldn’t upgrade it…
Ummmm…Glad i didnt choose the S series. Atleast i have that to say to myself and others everytime i think about what the S can do and my TR cant. Anyway, i’m very happy with my TR and moreso now. Lolz. But seriously, i dont think 2 ghz is enough to entice people who already have the older 1.7 ghz S. And definately not the dual format DVD roms, why would you really need them ? When i can more than suffice by burning the DVDs on my TR and watch them dvds on a conventional multi region player.

BTW- I am glad u didn’t chose a S either….More of us TR users the better…
I bought a dvd-rw for my desktop and I never use it. I don’t even burn cd’s. Not that I don’t know how. Just that it doesn’t interest me….I go see films in the theater….
Or if I really reallly like them I would rather support who made them and buy a copy…Plus they loook a lot better than making your own…imo
But I see your sig…nice setup with your TR5….im jelous  Bluetooth is always nice….another comodity that I am going to get and won’t use very oftten…
Hey chris.
the thing is you would never really use bluetooth unless you have a BT phone, even then its a pain pairing them together for the first time. I have had such a hard time trying to pair them , and now they work decently fine.
Anyway. Yes we with TRs are lucky, first of all coz there are no real successors to our TRs, so far. And mostly because though my dad does use a real fast P4 3GHZ, i dont ever feel the need to use anything other than my TR most of the time. Its got plenty of bite in it.
And the screen, thats just something special now isnt it ?
