Ive got Norton on my main desk top pc in the house and when I got my TR5 I got a pre installed 60 day free trial of Norton which is about to expire.

The TR5 is used in the bedroom and is connected wirelessly to the main pc for internet etc.

The question is, do I need norton on both machines, or as the broadband connection comes through my desktop, is it automatcally scanning and protecting everything that then goes wirelessly to my tr5?

I think we are protected because i installed my full version of Norton Internet Security 2003 on my TR and i’ve never seen an attack (while i use to receive between 5 and 20 attacks / hour to the pc connected to a dsl line(mainly scans, so that’s not that dangerous) ... but i keep it for when i’m on an untrusted company network or on a public hotspot ...

Anyway, you still need Norton Antivirus on your laptop (or any other antivirus) since a virus infection will go through your firewall installed on your desktop and will damage the softwares installed on your vaio. Same for the emails, if you read your emails on your vaio and one is infected, without a trusty antivirus, your probably good for any kind of system restore methods… Or if you received any cd / dvd with viruses on it…

Summary :
- Norton Firewall : I think it’s not required if you don’t use your vaio elsewhere than just connected with your protected desktop.

- A trusty antivirus : essentials !
