you might want to becareful with the indonesian one.  i’ve heard quite a few frauds from foreign countries.  if you do, make sure everything money transaction goes through.

I wouldn’t take one from someone from Indonesia…I’ve dealt with them before…not good. This guy is from UK, and has good feedback. I only accept paypal, if he pays I have no problem shipping the item.

I’ve gotten 3 e-mails from people who are interested but the price is a bit high for them, one agreed to $100 less but I keep the keyboard and mouse, so I always have that offer.

might want to email the bidder via ebay’s contact method just to make sure it’s their account.  there’s been numerous reports of ebay accounts getting hijacked lately. :ph34r:

this is why i stopped tinkering my computer and laying low… hahaha e-mail bombs were pretty nasty back then.  I knew of accounts that were frozen because of this.  Frozen so bad that users had to contact service providers to reopen an account.

Ha! I ran into one of those. I checked an auction once and the site loaded, but then I was redirected to this other site that looked EXACTLY like an ebay log-in. It asked for me to reinput my password and my username. Since it looked like the website ( and believe, it was practically FLAWLESS ), I logged in, but with the wrong password because I was thinking that was using my other account.

Anyways, it took me through that screen, then an ebay “credit card and bank account update” site where it said it had to do a routine bank account check AND if I had a credit, I could input/verify that as well. I didn’t want to have to put all this stuff in, but then it just struck me that I remembered this was my account with a different password. I x-ed that screen, opened a new one, did the ebay search again, went into the same auction, and it redirected me to the same log-in site. The guy had good feedback in the listing, but it only showed it for a brief 10 secs or less. Anyways, I copied the site address, wrote ebay a letter with the address, and told them what was up.

About a week later, ebay customer support sent me this letter:

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write eBay with your concerns. I’m
happy to help you further.

I wanted to let you know that the account you reported was compromised
and used to list unauthorized items.

We have since secured the account and contacted the true owner.

Thanks again for writing, and thank you for being part of the eBay
community.

This has made me totally not like ebay at all.  I am not cofindent to use it.

You’ll are talking about fraud here…let me tell you’ll what’s been happening with me lately…I used to get these kind of emails SUPPOSEDLY from eBay:

Initially I thought it was a genuine email and clicked on the link and entered all my info…after getting repeated emails asking for this kind of info, I decided to forward the email to eBay and soon I got a reply saying that it was a fraudulent email. I also received similar email from Paypal (the fraudulent ones i.e.). I have received 4-5 such emails till date. I had to have my credit card, etc frozen and they did use it to buy some 3 month trial membership totalling $4.95…they probably wanted to start off with a small amount and then go onto bigger amounts. Now whenever I receive such email, I do click on the link and fillin all kinds of abuses I can think of directing them to the frauds and their entire family. One more thing….the address bar would contain a URL just like eBay’s but it’s more like an image…u cant edit it and if u minimize the window that URL would be visible even on your desktop. If I would try clicking on the link a few hours later, the account would have already been suspended….the link in the quote above opens some other website.

It’s quite :shock:  :shock:  to know what these mo**** fu**** can do to get ur info.

My next call (tomorrow morning) is to the IN Police department to let them know of the fraud…this is the second time i’ve had to do this…last time a guy was selling portable DVD players for $75, turned out to be a 14 year old kid using his dads account….the police took care of it.

I’m sorry to hear that, Rahul. At the very least, you caught it before it got any worse. ebay is still a wonderful place to use and to shop, but a lot of recent fraud is making me more aware . . . and less trusting of sellers. I used to trust sellers, even if they had 0-feedback ( I paid $900 for an Acer C102Ti once online . . . I grew sick the entire week! but my computer finally arrived ).

Now, even if they have over 100, I verify their current auction AND their previous auction and feedback. Especially if the person has had LOTS of feedback buying, but never sold anything on ebay before. I journally look for Powersellers now because at least they have to maintain selling no less than $100 or something like that per month in order to have the “Powerseller” star beside their name. And that means they’d need to have lots and lots of sales per month and still maintain the feedback to earn Powerseller status. Legit sellers.

Be careful, you cant always trust a power seller…sometimes when they decide to leave ebay they take 200+ people’s auctions with them…i’ve seen it happen 100 times before…

Just check feedback, its a safe bet. If the seller has 2000+ positives but 3 negatives in the last week…he’s running, don’t send money.

It couldn’t have gotten worse with me around…I check my accounts daily and I did notice a pending debit of $4.95…I was just waiting to see a full description on it before reporting it to my credit card company and/or bank.

I also forgot to mention that these people probably tried changing my password once they had access to my account but somehow eBay caught that and immediately reset my password and sent me an email telling me that my password had been compromised so it had been reset. In the password change email they send an ip address so when I traced the IP using neotrace it was traced to somewhere in the atlantic ocean…they obviously must have been using something like safeweb.

Also, when there was a full description for the debit card purchase, I called up the 1-800 no. for the company (paycom.net) and asked her how I could get the frauds caught..she said I would need to report it to the local authorities and give them the confirmation no. she gave me and they would contact that company and then they would trace the ip (wonder how they could trace the ip with these people using something like safeweb to stay anonymous). It’s quite suprising that the company by themselves wouldn’t bother catching the frauds until the police reported it to them.

of course they wouldn’t bother.. as long as they are getting paid.. they could care less who gets f*cked..

they don’t do checks on everyone because it’s costly.  and you could be doing it out of harrassment.  crazy but true.  =/

linc, most ebay sellers are fine.  unfortunately it’s the bad apples that really ruin it.  In order for me to trust a seller, i usually do a full feedback check and date of usage.  just look at their previous auctions and see what they sell/buy. 

sadly, i’ve already come across some shady mofo.  “second account” bidding to jack up prices.  but luckily those idiots saved me from purchasing their garbage.   i’d rather not buy from these guys.  usually these guys have bumpped feedback by the same guys.  e.g.  if a guy’ll have 5 positive feedbacks from the same buyer/seller on the same product… my head starts to see a pretty yellow flag.  i’m psychotic like that :ph34r:
