Its about time, I guess they looked at their slow Mp3 player sales. The article says they are working on it, who knows exactly how long it will take. If it will work on some of their older players, this might be really interesting.

Now, they just need to drop the price of the players by at least $100…Dell has their 20GB for $179 shipped…that hurts Sony’s 20GB for $399.

I’ve been waiting for this since buying a Music Clip way back when. The real deal is much better than Sony’s current claim of mp3 support (by converting to ATRAC) nonsense.

Yeah, I’m sure a ton of us are waiting to see what will come from this. I expect that people will be forced to buy new devices (as Sony will see the opportunity) in order to get that MP3 support. I really don’t see them putting forth a huge effort to upgrade the firmware of already released products. Of course, if they did they would regain a huge amount of credibility and “instant market share” so there it is worth for them to do.

Haha…I’m still using my original purple/silver MusicClip. I find it’s whopping 64MB to be just the right amount for my trips to the gym. I found that if you use a e2 lithium battery in it, it lasts 3x longer than a duracell ultra or energizer and it makes the MusicClip weigh next to nothing.

That’s a smart idea, I stopped using mine because I was tired of recharging NiMH AA batteries several times a week.

Their credibility is what they do need to regain. I am not suggesting they fix all their old Mp3 players, but at least the ones released in the last year or so. They can only ‘screw’ us so many times before we go elseware.

lol, i myself have a history of mp3 players.  I started with an Audiovox 32mb MP3 player, it was small and it had a nice big digital display.  Yet the 32mb’s was limiting, so the next thing was to purchase the original Creative Jukebox, which houses 6 gb’s of files.  I loaded all my mp3’s on it, but if you didn’t have the fields filled out correctly for each one, it made it a bear to find.  Finally with the purchase of my UX50 back in December, and the purchase of a 512mb MS Pro, I now just use that as my mp3 player.  On plane trips I put a movie on it instead.  In my mind…UX50 = best mp3 player ever…although kind of expensive for that purpose only.
