It’s only speculation at this point, but the longer you left it uncharged the more likely it is. The first thing to do do is what linc suggested. Remove the battery and see if the TR will run on the AC adapter.
If it will, then the battery is the problem. If it won’t, something else is going on, but the battery is still at risk.
If it’s the battery, and it’s still within warantee, call Sony and tell them your battery died. Otherwise shop for a new battery. It is possible that a small direct charge on the individual cells could bring the charge up enough that the built-in safety circuits will allow it to charge normally. This would require opening the battery pack and, if the cells are past hope, could be dangerous.
If the problem seems to be the TR and you bought your TR from a local dealer they might let you stick your battery in a display unit long enough to give it a charge. In fact they might let you do it anyway out of kindness.
