that’s pretty much like my ISP back in India except that at one time those SOB’s had set the limit at 500 MB/Month downloads, probably no limit on uploads. But when we were signing up for their (SHIT) service they said unlimited downloads and uploads :x

It sucks, true. Sounds like they’re trying to allocate bandwidth, limit file sharing and firewall the lesser used ports.

If you go into the computer center, hat in hand, and make nice, most of the guys (and gals) who do the work there are idiots like us. There’s a fair chance you can convince them to up your limits and they might even be willing and able to open a port or two for you. If you make friends with someone there, the world is your oyster…

Its university of california, riverside, and i am (going to be) a mechanical engineer, so i’ll be in the same groupings as all the comp sci sctudents who are in with the comp lab and resnet crew (the computer services)

Consider yourself blessed. The college I’m at has a nifty little piece of software running called Icarus that stops any kind of media download (music, moves, etc). If you try to download something prohibited, it cuts off your internet. ARGH.

There are ways around that. AllofMP3.com, for example, allows you to download MP3s that are named ZIP…after you download, just rename…I think they allow DOC and other file extensions as well.

Beyond that you can bypass Icarus and the likes, but thats another matter and if you get caught would prob. get you kicked out of school.
