Well we all know that the TR series don’t really have enough memory to store your life on. Now different problems call for different solutions, eg if you need fast access go usb2 or firewire. Otherwise you need one of these:

Basically it is a very low powered linux box with intergrated 802.11 access point and 4 port 10/100 switch. It boots from a 32mb flash card and has a 20gb hd in it. Again 20gb is not really enough but shove 200GB and its a start.

I am actually building a pc to do exactly this but the “IT IN A BOX” is sooo much neater…

I use my old VAIO laptop as a wireless file server, and it works pretty well, though 802.11b can be pretty poky when it comes to large file transfers. I would use an 802.11 a/g card, but the PCMCIA slot fried itself years ago.

i picked it up in November 2000, so about 3 years old now. A good little machine, though the delete key fell off, PCMCIA slot died, and the hard drive is LOUD.

how mujch is the emergecore device cost ..?

Sounds a lot like the old Cobalt Qube to be honest, but this seems way underpowered for 2004.

i’ll stick to usb2/firewire external hdd.

so u access and manage that machine by network?

You could always go with something like a Snap server. They’re relatively cheap for NAS devices.
