Hello everyone, new to the forum and I’m glad I found this place.  I just want to say hello and Introduce myself.  I finally made my decision between a TR2A and the Fujitsu P5020, and I’ll be going for the Sony.  What’s the coolest thing you guys do with these little beauties?  The only thing I was concerned about was that both laptops I was looking at had no built-in bluetooth.  I did however find a PC Card made by 3Com that has a retractable Bluetooth antenna, so its somewhat built-in.

congrats on your decision. as a new tr2 owner myself, i’ll be the first to tell you that you made a great choice! it was the xbrite screen that convinced you to go sony, wasn’t it? at least that’s what it was for me.

Perhaps the coolest thing I’ve been able to do with this system is ‘everything’. It’s the first subnotebook i’ve had that essentially allows me to do the work I need to do without having to really sacrifice anything (except playing games).

Heck, I built this Sony TR World site entirely on my TR!!! I was able to work on this site from home, my parent’s place, Starbucks, a hospital waiting room, and a friend’s place. Pretty mobile indeed. :wink:

I also capture, edit and export DV on mine and it handles it quite well.

I even edited some music and burned it to CD while in a parking lot before one of my dance performances. We thought we only needed to perform one number and then the organizer asked if we could do a second so I had to create a new CD with two different tracks and gave it to the sound engineer.

My passengers have been able to watch DVDs while on the road to Las Vegas while I drove.

When I visit family out of town, I will take pictures, edit them and then burn VCD slideshows and CD copies before I leave so they can have a copy and view the slideshow VCDs in their DVD players.

The list is endless…I continually find new ways to use my system…

I was thinking about something.. I will be using my Sony Ericsson P900 with bluetooth to be going online away from home and hotspots, do you think that will be fast enough to do some videoconferencing through MSN?  Thanks.

Well l finally got my TR2A from frys electronics! ill post pics of this joyful occassion a little later, (l am currently posting @ a restaurant w/ my sony ericsson p800).

gr00vy0ne: Except playing games?  Watchutalkinabout Willis?  I’ve been rockin’ out on mine with Wolfenstein: Enemy Territoy and other fairly high-end games.  The graphics chipset is pretty good.

Now if only I wasn’t a high ping loser, I might actually be able to do good in the game.

Well, I consider high-end games to be DirectX 9 games…or even DirectX 8.1 games (i.e. games that demand hardware T&L). Those games are unplayable on my TR.  :cry:  I’m currently playing Beyond Good & Evil on my desktop PC and would love to play it on the road but it won’t even load. Wolfenstein plays fine because it’s based on the Quake III engine which runs fine under the TR. Unreal Engine games is another matter though…

Ah, point taken.  DX9 games, well… Hmm.  Halo runs fine on my desktop system (with a Radeon 9800 PRO), but has massive issues with anything else.

Now if only the TR2 ran Final Fantasy XI

Can someone tell me where I can order the DVD Recovery Disc for my TR2A?  I just made the 9 discs so that I can combine the C, D drives and remove the recovery partition.  I just would rather not carry all 9 discs in my laptop bag!  Thanks!

You can order the DVD from sony.  They will just make you pay shipping.

This is great .. the unit looks and feels great ... however, I am a bit afraid about adding apps to it (don’t want to mess with perfection!)

So, at the moment I’m updating the WinXP-Pro from the MS Update site ... also need to go and install or the apps I need to work (Cisco VPN, Meeting Maker, Office, etc…)

Now, the 9-disk recovery thing ... that is a weird thing ... have any of you ordered and use the Recovery DVD from Sony?

god forbid!!!  but you’re right so i have stopped this silly practice

really how and who can i speak to at sony?  i asked them to send them to me and they wanted to charge me for the dvd and shipping :(

I actually didn’t order the recovery dvd but I got that information from another post by “cellery”.

I am sure if you argue with them enough they will send you a free dvd.  Just curious, how much were they trying to charge for the recovery dvd?  Sony has got some balls to charge for that when they sell you a computer for more than $2000!
