Why does microsoft have to be so annoying.

I formatted my desktop this afternoon and so obviously put on SP2, which I hadn’t bothered with yet.
Everything is going fine until I get to my bluetooth dongle.  I plug it in and windows goes away and does it’s thing with it.  I get it to pair with my P900 but then I couldn’t see any way to initate a serial connection.  I could select it as an available service but not actually use it :evil:

So I decided that I’d rather go back to my old bluetooth software,  but can you uninstal the windows version… no.
Well I put in my old cd anyway and told it to instal and I was hopeful when it said that it was ‘removing previous bluetooth devices’. So everything seems to have gone well, until I notice that I now have two bluetooth icons in my system tray.
So while holding my breath I plug the dongle back in, and before I have a chance to do anything… windows has reinstalled it’s bluetooth stuff and won’t release the dongle for my other software… Just makes you want to break down and give up on it all for a life of technological ignorance and a pad and pen…

Do these instructions help?

After you connected your device, did you go into the Services tab of your device and check off the services you want to use with it?

There should be Dial-up and some serial ports boxes. If you don’t check them off then they won’t show up as services you can use later.

Doh! Defeated by Drachen once again…sniff…

yeah I have all the com ports checked and the serial service checked and nothing happens.
I take it it’s meant to do it automatically so that it’s ‘easier’  :shock:

Give me my old software back anyday… don’t know what it was, but it let me do everything ‘my’ way!  Even let me use headsets, not that I have one :(

Will keep playing to see if I can get it all to play nicely together :?

Well after a few more reboots thanks to other instals I tried it again and it worked this time, so now I’m really confused!  Ah well don’t mess if it ain’t broke!
