I would agree with you that red is better for a car… it’s just that there’s a huge difference between driving a car in low-light conditions where it’s entirely dark in the cab and you’re typically staring at darkened ground and using a computer in low-light conditions where you have a huge glowing panel shining right in your eyes.
Light blue and white a more neutral colors and are more often used in these applications. If you want to see a nice backlit blue keyboard, check out an Apple Powerbook one of these days.
