using intel proset (for those who use intel pro wireless card, or other manufacturer software based on that wireless card) or windows xp configuration xp sp2?
just wondering which is better between these two (i m using win xp sp2, so it’s win xp sp2 improved wireless configuration vs latest intel proset 2100 and/or 2200)?
also, if intel proset is used, how much more memory does it use?  i want to install it, but u know, just another program means slower time to boot… (more icons under system tray.  i try to minimize the icons as small as possible)

i used to be using intelpro until i reinstalled the OS 1 week ago and upgraded to SP2 ... have been using XP’s since. No prob so far.

Given the maturity of SP2s wireless software, I’ve switched back to using it as well as it means less stuft to load up to hog my system tray and less unnecessary services running. I might switch back to Intel’s PRO/Set when the next version comes out that has the new security features.

I’m using Intel/Proset.  I have not done SP2 on the TR yet.  I’m still testing it on my desktop.  I’m curious if the SP2 wireless software is really better.

Any suggestions on the un-install? Is it clean? Had proset installed when I loaded SP2 and all I need are more stray drivers and dlls bouncing around in there.

I have SP2 installed on:-
my desktop - wired into a Belkin wireless router - Belkin software handles the interface, Windows XP Home handles the rest.
My TR1MP Windows XP Prof handles the connection.
My son’s Tosh Satellite 2450 Has a Belkin PCMCIA cardbus wireless adapter and Belkin software controls all.
My Tos P20 Windows Media Centre Edition handles wireless/internet.

There is no problem at all with the connections. All PCs can be active, two playing a LAN game, one on the ‘net and another on newsgroups - no faults ever.

Really works beautifully :D Best £200 I ever spent, getting the house wirelessly networked. Even my iPAQ5550 joins in seamlessly.

I just loaded SP2 on the TR.  Works fine so far.  It did not automatically switch my wireless to SP2.  I still have Proset installed.  How do I switch so I can test it out.

Well, you can simply uninstall the PROSet software and make sure your Windows Zero Config service is active. That should do it. There’s also the Wireless Network Setup wizard located in the Control Panels to help you with it.

After using the pro set for the past several months I too upgraded to SP2.

I used them both for about 2 weeks and have decided that I prefer the SP2 software quite a bit better.

The scanning for wireless networks provides more details and a larger viewable area than pro set did.  It is easier for me to configure and switch between wireless networks.

After installing Win Xp Sp2, my wireless connection improved significantly,
before it got disconneted every 30mins for so, now it never lose connection.
