Florida sounds nice, after hurricane season… how big’s your backyard?
Seriously, we could do it anywhere, but a vacation desination often offers good rates on rooms and airfare. The added advantage is that those of us with significant others or families could more easily justify the expense.
I know we’ve been talking US destinations and I think for a test run it would be easiest. Someday, given enough time to plan, I could happily contemplate Sydney or London or…
I know there are 600+ members here, but in reality I only see about a hundred or so that really participate. I could only see a few dozen who would take such an event seriously. I would love to see such an event be pulled off, though. I am eager to meet everyone. :D

Big enough for the numbers I just mentioned above (up to 50 or so). However, an ideal location would be at a resort. Then we are assured of plenty to do. How about a cruise? It is inexpensive and less of a burden on any would-be host. Is 4 days, 3 nights enough? How about the Carribean? Europe? I am open to ideas here folks. We have had threads on this before. Lets make it happen and stop playing patty-cake.
I may organize an “informal” Los Angeles based one just to see who comes. We’ll probably meet up at a Starbucks or some lame place like that…or preferably some place that has “free” Wi-Fi so we can make trouble and all do live broadcasts via Shoutcast.
I probably would not travel out of state just to go to Starbucks. In a resort atmosphere or a cruise I could at least bring the wife and kids and make a vacation of it. There are a handful of people in the CA area on this forum. You could get a decent showing for your idea, gr00v0ne.
While I’m all for smaller localized get togethers, I too would have a hard time justifying airfare for a cuppa at Starbucks Still, be happy to join you over the web.
I do like the idea of a cruise or resort. It makes everything pretty simple. Those who wanted an extended vacation could easily do so.

Not only that, but you would not have to worry about food. A cruise could be a great option. I have a friend in the biz. After I speak to her I will let you guys know what is involved. The bottom line is that you would pay for airfare to and from the port, then the cruise itself. Thats it! Souveniers would be the only other expense. It could end up being like $500-600 per person depnding on how long the cruise is. With resort amenities at your fingertips and all you can eat food, you can’t beat that.
Timeframe, any suggestions people? There’s often a lull in travel, and ensuing good deals, between Thanksgiving and Xmas. Otherwise it’s after the new year. Best deals again are after the winter peak and before spring-break.
Location.. East Coast, West Coast, Texas, Las Vegas? We’re short of demographics here.
I’m gonna post a couple of polls if it’s OK with you gr00vy. If not, just zap-em.
Yeah, a localized meeting is fine for small gatherings. I’m trying to think of some interesting activity we could do to make it worthwhile. I’m thinking these smaller meetings can possibly turn into something larger if they become popular enough.

True, but we might as well dream about the “big one” while we’re at it.
Using the poll feature to get more than generalized locations would be painful. There seem to be a fair number of regulars in SoCal, but the rest of us appear to be widely distributed.

I may come, as I travel about 6 months of the year. If I’m nearby then I can pop in. If it’s near Miami, where I live, then I can make it pretty easily, if I’m not booked for an assignment. Or does anyone want to come to Hamburg?
